mother, Cora Thoming, had it among her pictures. He recalls visiting the black
Drake school in the 1940's for a pie supper, but this is obviously the white

Old Drake School Burns
Fire destroyed the former Drake school near
Lake Arrowhead at Lonedell last Sunday afternoon. The fire department received
the call at 3:00 p.m. and found the building beyond help.
The building was empty. It was built as a
one-room frame school building more than 40 years ago and served as a
schoolhouse until the reorganization of five districts, including Drake, into
the present R-14 district.
