Indian Prairie School - 1938
This photograph was provided by Charles Speakes.
He was able to identify most of the students. Starting at the
left front and working BACK, they have been identified as follows: Charles
Speakes, John Speakes (behind Charles), Louis Lenau (in overalls), Evelyn
Friedel (not certain), Willard or Lee Freidel, and the tall girl in back has not
been identified but might be Virginia Redhage. The girl to her right is Mabel
Sachs.
In the back row, the boy on the far right is Wesley Gabel, the
girl to his left is Daisy Speakes.
The girl on the far right, front, is Maude Cordell.
Forest Whitworth (not shown) was the teacher.
It appears that the students have a farming display that won
an award, perhaps in a township or county-wide competition. There is a map of
the U.S. on the right, a map of MO in the center, and another map (Franklin
County?) on the left with farm implements and samples of something farm-related
in the display.
According to the Quarterly Report of Student's Scholarship
Record for 1938, the students attending Indian Prairie School that year were
(name and age):
Since there were 19 students on the teacher's report and there
are 19 students in the photograph, it is likely that each of the names on this
list match up to one of the students in the photograph.
